The fourth edition of the Sustainable Food Festival invites visitors to enjoy music and food and drink in a more conscious way, with good quality proposals that highlight the value of local, healthy foods, and the people who produce them and care for the planet through sustainable practices. The event is organised by Barcelona City Council in collaboration with Slow Food Barcelona and the Association of Gastronomy and Tourism of Baix Llobregat.

What can you sample there?

In the food area, you’ll find a varied range of products, dishes and drinks made with organic, local and seasonal ingredients: with an offer of up to 28 small plates at €5 each.

This means caring for the planet whilst still enjoying the pleasure of good food, in a food area serving up tasty, healthy and sustainable food from a variety of restaurants that choose to make their dishes using products made with love and that are also more environmentally-friendly.

Participating in this year’s edition are Assalto Bar de Vins, Bacaro, Bistrot Levante, Casa Xica, El Celler del Nou Priorat, Espai Puntal, Fella, Green Leka Valldaura, Happy Foods, La Sosenga, Llamber, Mescladis, Rasoterra, Zaza, and a restaurant serving up Moroccan cuisine – this year Casablanca is the guest city at La Mercè–.

The drinks area is back with the collaboration of Barcelona Beer Festival (BBF), who have teamed up with six local craft beer producers. You’ll also find a space selling natural wines, with L’Olivera (Can Calopa); and among the non-alcoholic proposals, you can sample the organic kombucha from Lov Kombucha.

Also, to round things off, you’ll also find seasonal artisan ice creams produced by Delacrem, and speciality coffees from The Milk & Coffe, a pedal-powered coffee trike, which generates the energy needed to grind and make coffee.

Finally, also worth mentioning are the six small producers who, in addition to their products will be offering samples of vegan and cow’s milk cheeses, olive oils, jams and marmalades, artisan bread, organic meat and chocolates.

How can you take part?

The activity area will be hosting show cookings, workshops and games for people of all ages, tasting sessions and talks where we will learn how to change our habits and discover the world of gastronomy applying more sustainable practices, whilst still enjoying the pleasure of good food.

Highlights of the programme include the award ceremony for Slow Food Barcelona’s 3rd Gastronomic Responsibility Awards, or the show cooking sessions with Marc Singla (chef at Mar Salada), La Platjeta (sustainable fishing) and Can Calopa (wines, olive oils and Mandó tomato); the Cook&Chat session on the most precious liquid with Virginia Mendoza (author of “La Sed”), Adriana Carcelén (chef at Rasoterra), Magui Caviglia and Annelies Broekman (CREAF); or the activity with Vicent Guimerà, Slow Food chef at the Antic Molí (Michelín Star and Green Star), who will be offering a “Mans” slow-cooking activity, which includes everything from ingredients to the crockery, created by artisans from the Ebro region.

What can we listen to?

Music will also be one of the stars of the fair, with different performances at each time of day. Concerts accompanied by midday aperitifs, plus live music for your afternoon enjoyment and catchy rhythms that will get you dancing in the evening.

On Friday 20 and Saturday 21, you’ll have the chance to enjoy a live performance from Aïta Mon Amour, leading act on the electronic music and traditional music scene in Morocco and Tunisia; the Folk / Peruvian pop of Alejandro and Maria Paula; or the fusion of Folk-soul, rock, funk and rumba from Juanlu Leprevost.

Last but not least, on Sunday 22, two major acts will be closing the fourth edition of Terra i Gust, the Latin rhythms of Aymée Nuviola, and the Jungle Trance Blues (a genre that fuses blues, trance rhythms and African percussion) from the group Egosex.

Barcelona Healthy and Sustainable Food Strategy for 2030

Terra i Gust is a project that supports local agriculture and conservation of the territory whilst promoting the local economy and waste reduction. It is a festival that promotes sustainability for the planet and sustainability of the product, with a focus on the social aspect, hiring people from hospitality schools and training centres that work with people at risk of social exclusion. At this year’s edition, Terra i Gust has partnered with Mescladís, an entity based in the city that works to promote social cohesion.

The Terra i Gust festival is an initiative that forms part of the city’s commitment to moving from the current food system towards a healthier, more sustainable model. The road map established to achieve this is the Barcelona Healthy and Sustainable Food Strategy for 2030, an agreement signed by all the local agents that form part of the food chain.
