Barcelona is set to become the epicentre of the debate on food policy and sustainable food strategies this coming Tuesday, 19 November.

The Jornada sobre Polítiques Alimentàries Municipals:
Alimentem Barcelona [Municipal Food Policy Symposium: Feeding Barcelona], which will be held in the auditorium of the Escola Industrial, will bring together national and international experts with the aim of encouraging municipalities in the province of Barcelona to promote food policies that will guarantee healthy, locally produced food for citizens.

For this reason, the meeting is mainly aimed at officers and councillors from town and city councils and other local authorities in the province. They will be offered comprehensive training where key concepts will be clarified, a general framework for action will be provided and where the municipalities will be encouraged to take a cross-cutting approach to the food model in local policies.

The event programme

One of the highlights of the event will be a round table with the participation of representatives of four European cities that are leading the way in terms of food policy: Milan, Dijon, Valencia and Barcelona. The speakers will share their experiences and best practice in devising and implementing municipal food policies.

The event will also include practical workshops on the different stages of producing a food strategy, and local experts, such as representatives of the Espai Agrari de Mataró and the Parc Agrari de la Conca d’Òdena, will share their experiences with those attending.

The full programme for the symposium, which will run from 9.00 am to 5.30 pm, is available here. Those interested in attending can register using this form.

The event is jointly organised by Barcelona Provincial Council and the Barcelona Metropolitan Strategic Plan (PEMB), with the collaboration of the Joint Office for Sustainable Food (OCAS), the Generalitat de Catalunya and Barcelona City Council.
