Sònia Callau Berenguer

Sònia Callau is currently responsible for the Territorial Agricultural Department at Barcelona Provincial Council. She worked on the design and implementation process for the Baix Llobregat Agricultural Park, where she was part of the managerial team until 2013, and has spent a total of 15 years taking part in the project. An agricultural and forestry engineer by training, she also has a master’s degree in Urban Planning from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. She has worked as an expert with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Agriculture, and has collaborated with the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) as an authority on peri-urban agriculture. She is a member of the Governing Board of the Catalan Society Town and Country Planning (SCOT) and a member of the Catalan Institution of Agricultural Studies (ICEA). Her areas of expertise include models for the protection and management of agricultural areas (agricultural parks and rural parks), rural-urban reconnection systems and, more recently, sustainable and local food systems. She has published several articles and taught classes on agricultural parks and food planning at various universities.
