Agrifood systems play a vital role in the climate emergency, as they are responsible for 21% to 37% of global greenhouse gas emissions (IPCC 2019).

In order to achieve the climate reduction objectives we need to ensure the survival of life on Earth as we know it, we must promote drastic changes in our food systems.

Barcelona’s tenure of World Capital of Sustainable Food will begin just weeks after the COP 26 UN Climate Change Summit in Glasgow and, among other things, it will visibilise and enhance the relationship between food and the climate emergency.
